IKO is a world leader in the manufacture and supply of asphalt and bituminous water proofing products. FINTEX received a mandate to assist IKO reduce substantially the natural gas consumption of the incinerator at the Hawkesbury plant. Our study indicated that natural gas consumption can be reduced considerably by replacing the after-burner with a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer.
The aim of this project was to investigate problems related to the plant heating system and review the process ventilation system requirements. This analysis recommended replacing the existing plant heating system by new infrared radiant heaters and three make-up air units. The thermal fluid heaters were also evaluated and several projects to improve their efficiency were proposed.
Resulting from the energy audit of the plant heating system, FINTEX was given the mandate to design a new plant infrared radiant heating system and the installation of new make-up air units. The equipment selection, design of the natural gas system, ventilation and electrical components of the project were carried out.
